SUN Project Goes to Brighton

On Thursday 13th September 2012, members from groups across the boroughs came together for a trip to Brighton. We were graced with beautiful weather and everyone was in high spirits as we set off to the seaside by coach.

It took us approximately an hour to arrive and everyone set off in groups to do their own thing; whether that be taking a stroll along the pier or having lunch in a nearby pub.

The pier had a beautiful smell of fish and chips wafting through the air and was filled with small shops selling rock, candyfloss, trinkets and ‘I love Brighton’ merchandise. There were rides, like the helter skelter, a haunted house and a beautiful big wheel situated on the beach. Many members were pleasantly surprised by the sights and recounted memories of past trips.

Running parallel to the sea where amazing small art galleries with gorgeous paintings of dogs, ducks, giraffes and birds as well as other weird and wonderful pictures transferred to postcards thatou can buy for friends and family. Other artists had used wires, broken bits of china, shells from the beach and whatever they had at their disposal to create picture frames and decorations for around the house which were fascinating to look at but rather out of my price range.

Returning to our meeting point just before 6pm to wait for the coach, everyone caught up and exchanged stories about their day. The day had been a great success that everyone seemed to really enjoy and said they would keep with them as a positive memory to remember during darker days. It’s really useful to have a day away from the stresses and struggles that most members of the SUN face daily and remember what it’s like to relax and enjoy life. The trip received really uplifting and positive feedback during the groups for the following few weeks and is still spoken about fondly now.

On behalf of all members I want to thank the staff for making the day possible and I’m sure I’m not alone when I say, more times like this please!
